Here are questions I often get from people:

 How is the McKenzie approach different from regular PT?
 I’ve already been to PT and it didn’t help or provided only temporary relief, how can this help?
  • The McKenzie approach is an assessment process which allows us to find the ONE movement or position that will help your condition.
  • The McKenzie approach involves educating YOU about your condition so you can learn how to self treat.
  • The McKenzie approach involves teaching you how to minimize or prevent future episodes.
  • The McKenzie approach is very targeted and specific to YOU!  You won’t receive a sheet of generic exercises, but will receive one simple exercise.
  • The McKenzie approach doesn’t usually involve using  equipment, such as bicycles, treadmills, or weights. (which is more like a gym)
  • The McKenzie approach doesn’t involve use of modalities (heat, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, etc) as these have found to provide only temporary relief at best.

    Sedentary Time and its association with risk for disease, incidence, mortality, and hospitalization in Adults:  A systemic Review and Meta-analysis.

    Biswas, A, et al Ann Intern Med, 2015;162(2): 123-132

    Conclusion:  Prolonged sedentary time was independently associated with deleterious health outcomes regardless of physical activity! This means that you cannot undo all the sitting even if you exercise!  The take home message – keep moving, don’t sit for prolonged periods.
